Function with tradition

It was in 1922 that a shoemaker and a doctor began to develop “healthy” shoes. This sounds rather ordinary, but at the time it was revolutionary and courageous. The GANTER idea was for the shoe to leave space for the foot and support its natural function.

To begin with, the idea of shoes not following the dictation of fashion but instead the requirements of human anatomy and biomechanics was met with laughter. But the first customers to have shoes in which their feet felt at ease and in which they themselves felt at ease were delighted.

The huge success of these “feel-good” shoes was proof that the GANTER concept was right, and became a spur to GANTER to make the shoes even better.

1977 saw the launch of the first GANTER AKTIV shoe. This GANTER AKTIV was a completely new shoe, with a sole that gave its wearer the feeling of walking on natural soft ground. In addition, it has protected and freed many people from the complaints of our modern civilisation such as back pains and posture problems.

The next few years were characterised by such fundamental inventions as the arcade shank that makes the wearing of shoes with up to 3 cm heels easier, and in 1985 the patent for the 4-point rolling system that ensures that the foot moves along its natural line of roll.

2006 was another important year for GANTER. The GANTER team succeeded in achieving a development that significantly improves the function of the GANTER AKTIV and allows the positive effects of walking barefoot to have an effect on the body.

Its sole is made of 3 functional components. The core is a stabiliser, packed in a rocker sole and an inner shock-absorption inlay.
