Foot hygiene – a matter of great importance

Did you know that your feet have just as many sweat glands as your hands? And do you wash your feet as often as you wash your hands? No? And despite the fact that they are boxed in from morning to evening, often in cheap shoes made of synthetic materials, creating the damp low-oxygen climate that is the ideal breeding ground for fungus and skin diseases.

A few tips

Take a footbath from time to time. It encourages the circulation of the blood, and only takes a few minutes and a foot basin. The water should be between 35 and 40° C, while adding a handful of salt increases the effect by a factor of between five and seven. Massage your feet and legs with a brush, making circular movements working upwards from bottom to top. You’ll still be feeling the pleasant effects hours later. Wash your feet with alkali-free soap whenever possible, since it does not destroy the acid layer of the skin. Use brimstone or a special file to carefully remove horny skin once a week. Never cut your toenails round, always leave them straight to stop the both unattractive and painful risk of ingrown toenails.

Important basic rules for foot hygiene:

  • Wear stockings made of natural materials, ideally pure wool.
  • Change your stockings regularly.
  • Make sure that your stockings are not too small.
  • Wherever possible, walk barefoot on natural ground.
  • Wear sandals with a good insole as often as possible.
  • Wear shoes made of genuine leather. Only genuine leather breathes and ensures a healthy pleasant climate for the foot
